Every day we walk on it with our feet—the ground. It is so taken for granted that we hardly ever pay it any attention. The exhibition “The Earth’s Thin Skin—Our Soils” is dedicated to this habitat, which is unknown to most people. Visitors have a unique opportunity to discover the fascinating and amazing world beneath their feet:
Special exhibition
The Earth’s Thin Skin
13. 4 — 19. 9. 2019

Senckenberg Naturhistorische Sammlungen Dresden, AWHeimann
Shrunken to the size of a soil creature, visitors embark on an exciting journey of discovery through the soil in four themed rooms. They learn all about the diversity of soil organisms, their way of life, and their role in the nutrient cycle. In addition, they gain insights into the formation, diversity, and threats facing soils, and discover how they can be protected and used sustainably.
Numerous 3D models, interactive elements, and multimedia stations invite visitors to marvel and participate. And with the virtual reality animation “Adventure: Life in the Soil,” exhibition guests encounter soil creatures at eye level!
